How to make ChatGPT write Instagram captions that sound like you

A four-step method and a copy-ready prompt to get captions that sound human, not robotic.

How to make ChatGPT write Instagram captions that sound like you

You ask ChatGPT for an Instagram caption. It gives you something like "Unlock your potential and elevate your journey!" with six emojis and twelve hashtags. Nobody talks like that. Your followers can tell, and they scroll past.

The fix isn't a different tool. It's a better brief. Here's how to get captions that actually sound like you.

Step 1: Teach it your voice

AI can't copy a voice it has never seen. So show it.

Pick 5 of your best captions, the ones that sound most like you. Paste them in and say:

Here are 5 captions I wrote. Describe my writing style in 5 bullet points: sentence length, tone, words I use often, and how I start and end.

Save that style description. You'll reuse it every time.

Step 2: Give it a real brief

A weak prompt gets a weak caption. Every request should include:

  • What the post is about, in one line
  • Who it's for (students, first-jobbers, small business owners)
  • The one thing they should feel or do after reading
  • Length (short captions usually work better)
  • What to avoid

Step 3: Use this prompt

Copy this and fill in the brackets:

You are writing an Instagram caption in my voice. My style: [paste your style bullets]. The post is about: [topic]. Audience: [who]. Goal: [save, share, comment or follow]. Write 5 options, each under 40 words. Start with a strong first line that makes people stop scrolling. No emojis, no hashtags in the caption, no words like "unlock", "elevate" or "journey". Simple, conversational English.

Asking for five options is the secret. One is usually close, and editing a good draft is much faster than fixing a bad one.

Step 4: Edit like a human

AI gets you to 80%. The last 20% is yours:

  • Read it out loud. If you wouldn't say it to a friend, change it.
  • Add one specific detail. A real number, a real place, a real situation. Specifics are what make writing believable.
  • Cut the first line if it's weak. On Instagram, the first line is the whole game.
  • Check every fact. AI can sound confident and still be wrong.

Bonus: hashtags without the spam

Ask separately for hashtags, and keep it to a few relevant ones:

Suggest 5 specific hashtags for this post, mixing one broad and four niche tags. No generic tags like #love or #instagood.

The real goal

AI shouldn't replace your voice. It should remove the blank page so you can spend your energy on ideas, not on staring at the caption box.
