Why beginner traders should think about risk before returns
An educational look at position sizing and why protecting capital comes first.

For educational purposes only. Not investment advice. I am not a SEBI-registered investment adviser. Trading involves risk, including the loss of capital.
Most beginners ask "how much can I make?" A more useful first question is "how much can I lose on this trade?"
Position sizing in one line
Decide the maximum share of your capital you are willing to lose on a single trade, then size the position so that a stop-loss hit costs no more than that amount.
Why it matters
A run of losses is normal for any approach. Small, fixed risk per trade means a losing streak stays survivable, while large, emotional position sizes can wipe out months of progress.
Three habits worth building
- Write the entry, stop-loss and reason before placing a trade.
- Keep a simple journal and review it every week.
- Treat a missed opportunity as cheaper than a forced one.
Discipline is not exciting, but it is the part of trading you fully control.
